Irven Roland Cooper, III, age 68, returned home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Left to cherish the memories of their beloved son are his parents, Dr./Colonel Irven Roland Cooper, Jr. and Helen Althea Cooper (Weir). Irven proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He went thru basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, then proceeded to Fort Devens, Massachusetts where he became a high tech radio interceptor. While in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, Irven monitored the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong at underground listening posts, as well as in the air on board Huey helicopters to support the United States Cavalry.

Irven received a B.Ed at Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas and a M.Ed at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He taught both 4th and 5th Grades throughout his career at Adams Elementary in the Harlandale ISD for 33 years. He was a master teacher. Teaching children the love of learning was his passion!

Irven was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, Explorer Scouts, the American Legion and a member of the Fort Sam Houston Main Post Chapel, where he volunteered every Sunday. He was very knowledgeable in history and art. Irven was always positive with everyone he met, and went the extra mile to help others.

Irven's legacy will always remind us to value the love of God and country, keep family first, and be a friend to all.

Funeral service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home,1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218 on: Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

Pallbearers: Members from the American Legion Post # 612 and Members from the Fort Sam Houston Main Base Chapel

Internment to follow at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.
