FRANK JEFFERSON BROUGHTON died on Friday, May 12, 2017. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Broughton, a life-long resident of San Antonio, was born in Houston, Texas, on July 19, 1929. When he was a young child, he moved to San Antonio with his parents. He was graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1946. Later, he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Trinity University in 1949, and a Master's degree in chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin in 1951. His professional career in chemistry began with the formation of a chemical company that produced cleaning products. Eventually, because of his love of cars and passion for family, he decided to join his father in the automotive business at his father's car dealership and foreign car-parts stores, Broughton Motors, Inc.-a company he would later lead and manage until his retirement in 2012. He was a warm and caring man who loved to talk about history (especially World War II), and reminisce about special moments of his life and of other historical facts. A life-long Episcopalian, Mr. Broughton was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. In fact, his love for Jesus Christ was seen through the unconditional love, and paternal guidance and wisdom that he gave to his family. He will always be remembered by his children as the best daddy in the world!
Mr. Broughton was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Frank Broughton and Viola Goodwin Broughton; and his wife, Sue Joyce Broughton. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Broughton Boleman; his son-in-law, Steven Boleman; his sons, Thomas Frank Broughton and Timothy Sean Broughton; his daughter-in-law, Lesley Scruggs Broughton; his grandchildren, Matthew and Zachary Broughton; and his sweet precious cat, Chandler. The Broughton family is grateful to the nurses and doctors at the Northeast Baptist Hospital for all the love and care they provided. The Broughton family is especially grateful to Christ Episcopal Church for all their love, and spiritual and pastoral care provided to Mr. Broughton. In lieu of flowers, the Broughton family requests that you send a donation to your charity of choice. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm -8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, with The Rev. Scott Kirayama officiating. The entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy can be made at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com
